A lovely old bottling of this blend produced by Bulloch Lade & Co., which traces its origins back to 1817 when John Bulloch opened the Dunochter distillery. Despite losing the distillery, a fate shared by his son afterwards, the two cooperated to form Bulloch & Co, running Dunochter briefly for a third time. In the mid-19th century the company merger with D. Lade & Co to form Bulloch Lade & Co, acquiring the Caol Ila distillery on Islay shortly after. In its time the firm also owned Lossit and Benmore, and was one of the founding interests in Tamdhu. Sadly, Bulloch Lade was one of the many firms that did not survive the first world war, declaring bankruptcy in 1920. Its assets were acquired by DCL in 1927, who reclaimed Caol Ila from Robertson & Baxter, licensing it back to Bulloch Lade until the early 1990s. When DCL eventually morphed into Diageo, the drinks giant retained it as a subsidiary until 2007 when it was eventually dissolved.
