We were delighted to recently receive the following message from a customer who purchased this bottle:

"The Charles Kinloch Navy Rum is an amazing find. You may not know, that was my old man's father. He was a businessman with an appreciation for fine wines and spirits. The family legacy goes back over 100 years as a matter of fact. I've been looking for bits and pieces of the legacy for years. My father passed in 2012 and had spoken frequently about how his father spent the majority of his time going back and forth between Glasgow, Scotland and London to conduct business. He had met his wife in Italy after serving in the RAF during WW1 and WW2."

One of the largest wines and spirits businesses in Britain, Charles Kinloch (1828-97) & Company Limited was established by Charles Kinloch and George Scott in 1861 at 14 Barge Yard Chambers, Bucklersbury, London.  In 1884, they had two premises at Backchurch Lane and also at 3 Queen Victoria Street.  By the late 19th century they needed larger premises and their new warehouse and fulfilment site was built in 1894-95 at Gower's Walk, Aldgate E1.  This was again the case in 1937 when they moved to a Modernist purpose-built site designed by E.E. Williams & E.G. Winbourne in Queensbury Road, Wembley.  The company operated for almost a century before joining the Courage Group in 1957 bringing with it a history of wine trading going back 100 years. This firm was stocking some 4,000 lines of wines and spirits, and, apart from its wholesale and retail trade, supplied outlets throughout Britain.  Two other Kinloch bottlings in our catalogue is their 1970s Alcoholic Cloves Cordial and Blue Anchor Navy Rum.
