Old Hickory was a brand of bourbon distilled by Continental Distilling Corporation who had operations in Philadelphia and Linfield PA, and with ties to East Penn Distillery in the 23rd District in Pennsylvania. Continental was formed in 1933 after its parent company, Publickers, made a fortune distilling everything from non-beverage alcohol to chemicals, antifreeze, and acetone during Prohibition.
The Continental arm of the enterprise manufactured Charter Oak, Cobb's Creek, Rittenhouse, Linfield and Old Hickory, among others. Most of these whiskies along with Old Hickory were made at Continental's Kinsey distillery in Linfield. The bottle we have here is 7 years old, distilled in 1946 and bottled in 1953. It makes a beautiful presentation with its vertically ribbed bottle and unique wide stance. Its wide cap and gold foil label complete the picture.
