This brand was created in 1928 by William Whiteley, the owner of Edradour and creator of the popular House Of Commons blended Scotch brand. The whisky, said to be distilled at Edradour, had the dubious distinction of having as its U.S. "sales consultant" the infamous Mafia boss Frank Costello. No doubt this greatly assisted in distribution to speakeasies during Prohibition. King's Ransom, at one time the most expensive Scotch whisky available, was made for the U.S. luxury market.
